How to take your blood sample

Follow this guide to take your blood sample correctly.
It is important to follow the instructions carefully to ensure correct sample collection.

When should you take the test?
Do you use hormonal contraception?
If yes: You can take the test at any time. The hormones we measure are not affected by your menstrual cycle.
If no: Preferably take the test on day 3 of your menstrual cycle. This gives the most reliable results as certain hormones are most stable then. It's also fine to take it on day 2, 4 or 5 if that suits you better.
How to count day 1 of your cycle: Day 1 is the first day of clear bleeding - not just brown or pink discharge (that's called spotting)
Does your period start in the evening? Then the next day counts as day 1.
Need help figuring out which day of your cycle you're on? Get in touch - we're happy to help!
Tips for successful sample collection
  • Preferably take the test in the morning. That's when hormone levels are most stable.
  • Drink water beforehand - it helps blood flow.
  • Avoid intense exercise 24 hours beforehand.
  • Avoid alcohol 24 hours beforehand.
  • Wait with the test if you're sick, have a fever or are taking antibiotics.
  • Recommended drying time is 1 hour (longer with more blood). The sample must be completely dry before being placed in the bag and posted. It can dry all day as long as it's left undisturbed and out of direct sunlight.

Step-by-step: how to do it

1
Preparations

Gather everything from your test kit:

  • ADX card for blood sample
  • Storage bag
  • Lancet
  • Bandage
  • Return envelope
2
Fill in the date

Write today's date on both the test card and storage bag.

3
Clean and warm hands

Wash your hands with soap and warm water and then massage your hands for at least 15 seconds to help blood circulation.

4
Take the sample
  • Disinfect the finger you're going to prick.
  • Use the lancet to prick.
  • Gently massage to get blood out.
  • Drop the blood on the ADX card - see the video for exactly how.
5
Package and send
  • Put the bandage on your finger.
  • Let the ADX card dry for 60 minutes.
  • Place the ADX card in the storage bag and seal it (remember the date!).
  • Place the storage bag in the return envelope
  • Drop off at the nearest PostNord location within one week. Find nearest PostNord location.
When will I get my results?

After posting your sample, it takes approximately 2 weeks before your report is ready. We'll update you via email along the way - so keep an eye on your inbox (and check your spam folder if you don't see anything).
